Wrong IPv6 geolocation for my NTP server

Wrong IPv6 geolocation for my NTP server

My IPv6 address is: 240d:c000:f06f:9300:1068:7be8:80e8:0
It is currently detected as sg , but the server is physically located in Japan (Tokyo).

Please update the GeoIP entry. Thank you.

The NTP Pool uses MaxMind for geolocation. It appears that this netblock was incorrect in their database. I’ve now submitted a change request at MaxMind for 240d:c000:f060::/44 but it will take a few days for the change to be processed, and a further few days for the change to propagate to the pool servers.

You can now either wait until, say, next week and delete+re-add your server with the corrected geolocation, or send an email to server-owner-help@ntppool.org to have it changed. I usually prefer the self-help method myself, ie. fix the geolocation via MaxMind and then re-add the server.

There is now a good chance that if you delete your server and then re-add the server, the geolocation would show up correctly.

On the Manage servers page, click the Delete button and select the first possible date for deletion. Then on the Manage servers page again enter your server’s IPv6 address to the Add my server input box and click Add. The correct geoip information should show up.

I’m told the procedure might work this way, ie. you don’t actually need to wait for your server to get deleted before re-adding the server again. If this does not seem to work, you may need to schedule the deletion, wait a few days until the server gets actually deleted and then re-add the server.

The “a further few days for the change to propagate to the pool servers” part in my previous message may have been ambiguous. That might be interpreted to mean that the existing servers’ geolocation information would be updated automatically, but that is not how it works. Some manual work (either manual changes by pool admins or server delete+re-add) will be needed in any case.

Hi,
as @avij already said the best way to get it changed is write an email to server-owner-help@ntppool.org with a request to change the location.

But it looks like it’s already have been changed from sg to jp.
