Bad score (negative) from just one monitor

Hello everyone,

I am running this server. It is a little router running openwrt and chrony on a regular customer at home connection with a static IPv6 adress. It is set to 6 mb/s, because my main router (provided by my ISP) has problems with more connections. Sadly I cannot change this, as it is a cable provider.
My overall is 20 but I wonder why a single monitor (jphnd2-3strqkc) lists me with negative values for multiple days. I think there must be some problem in the network between us, but I am not sure.

Hello @Wokkocher,

This is just how the wild Internet works, there’s always some packet loss somewhere, sometimes systematically. It does not affect the standing of your server, only the “Active” monitors are relevant for that. That is why there are so many monitors these days, so that some random network (or other) issue somewhere does not affect a server’s score.

See this recent thread where the same thing was discussed recently, and this description about how the scoring works, and what the different types of monitors (Active, Testing, Candidate) mean.

Well you can change the modem, as EU-law has forced all providers in Europe to allow to connect your OWN modem.

This is for xDSL / Fiber (direct) / Cable / Any ISP based in Europe.

Your problem isn’t so much the modem, it’s the connection between you and Japan that is unstable, happens a lot over very long distances.

But not to worry, that monitor doesn’t affect your server one bit as it’s score isn’t used for pool as a score for your server.

Only active monitors score you, testing may be used if actives have problems. But ALL other monitors is just information, they do nothing to your system being used by the pool.

Well, this is true, but I am not planning to do so. I already have a better than normal model and would have to buy an even better one. The cost benefit ratio is not good enough for me as I am satisfied with what I have besides of this point. But thanks for mentioning.
