More servers to high number of NTP server counties?

Do countries that already have a very high number of NTP servers still need more? In other words, is there any real benefit to running an NTP server in a country where the pool is already crowded?

Thank you!

The post must be at least 20 characters, but: Yes.

Let me start off by saying there is no such thing as crowded. There are millions hundreds of millions of Internet connected devices out there that need time. You can never have too many Time servers out there helping take care of that problem.

I’m in a country with a high number of NTP servers and just one of the NTP servers I run averages about 10,000 queries per second, all the time.

So yes, it can make a difference. Everyone helps.

Short answer: Yes.

Long answer: Yes but you can ask that your server helps poor supported country(s), that way your server will help others a lot. Like a few servers that help my country Belgium against overloading our servers. However, you have to request that. So please, if you server does little, request to help others that need more servers.

Send an email to: server-owner-help@ntppool.org to make this request.

My poor-staffed countries will welcome your effort.

In addition to the other ways people have said yes: Servers come and go, so adding more is always welcome.

I’m also planning to have the system automatically add servers from countries that have more than average capacity (versus usage) proportionally to countries with less capacity available (compared to usage); so in that context there will be no such thing as “excess”.
