Hello,

I announced this on the chrony-users. Miroslav suggest it might of interest here. I hope this appropriate.

I made some tooling for myself for monitoring chronyd. It might be of interest to others.

chronymon keeps a record of what chronyd does and draws it in a browser.

A small daemon, chronymond, polls chronyd once a second. It sends reports only and never changes chronyd’s state. It also reads chronyd’s tracking, measurements, statistics, refclocks and tempcomp logs, including whatever history they already hold. Everything goes into one SQLite file. The daemon uses about 9 MB of memory.

chronymon-web serves that file read-only and charts:

- Live: offset, frequency, skew and root distance, with unsynchronized spans shaded.
- Sources: every source’s offset, delay and frequency, and its selection state over time. It knows which PPS is locked to which NMEA.
- Refclocks: each refclock’s samples, from refclocks.log.
- Temperature: tempcomp’s input against frequency, with the correlation.
- Distribution: a histogram and percentiles of the offset.
- Kiosk: one screen meant for a display across the room, showing the time, the clock’s state, its sources and events, and a day of charts.

It also records events such as restarts, steps and large offsets, and fills gaps from the logs when the daemon wasn’t running.

The easiest way to install it is the Debian package, for amd64 or arm64. The package carries both programs and starts both. It’s on the release page.

I installed it, but there is a small problem with it.
If you change the port from 8323 to 323 it fails to start.

Other then that amazing piece of work! Love it.

If you want to use a listening port between 0-1023 you need to run it as root. Maybe that was the reason?

Nope it’s running as root on dedicated system.
